Choosing a great bed for your bedroom interior design is not sufficient. You must invest in a quality mattress as well. The mattress determines the comfort level and how well you can sleep. If you choose a bad mattress for your bedroom decor, it might strain your back and affect your sleep. As a result, you might feel sleepy the next day and not be able to work properly. Hence, it is imperative that you very carefully choose a good quality mattress for your bed. There are two common types of mattresses available in the market; foam and spring. You must choose one depending on your needs and bedroom furniture design. If you are not well aware of these types, here are a few differences between both types that will help to make the right decision while purchasing a mattress for your bedroom interior design:
01 of 05 Check durability and maintenance requirements
Whenever you buy something for your bedroom interior design, you must check its durability. The same stands for buying a mattress. There is only a certain amount of pressure a mattress can sustain. It will sag and wear out over time. Many people choose coil-based spring mattresses thinking they will last much longer. However, this is not true. Contrary to the belief, the coils eventually break and the mattress starts losing its flexibility. They generally do not last more than 7 to 10 years. You will have to take very good care of them as well. These are high maintenance that cannot be bent or flooded at any cost. Otherwise, the coil can break. To ensure that it does not start showing signs of wearing out early, it is better to rotate it 180 degrees every 4 to 6 weeks. People with double-sided mattresses can flip them as well.
A foam mattress will not sag and wear out so easily. Look for a mattress with a high-density foam core while purchasing. When maintained properly, these mattresses can easily last more than a decade. Also, you do not have to worry about taking care of them. They are durable and sturdier. Just avoid putting your mattress directly under the sun.
02 of 05 Choose a mattress depending on your body weight
You must choose the mattress for your bedroom decor depending on your body weight. People with a higher body weight should consider spring mattresses. This is because the springs inside the mattress hold the body weight and prevent the mattress from sinking.
However, this is not the case with a foam mattress. Since they do not have springs, people with a higher weight might not feel comfortable on them. The mattress can sink and make it uncomfortable for the person when lying for too long. If you do not have a high weight, a foam mattress would be perfect for you.
03 of 05 Determine based on temperature control
If you stay in a warm country like India, a memory foam mattress might not be the best choice for your bedroom furniture design during summer. This is because the mattress tends to trap heat. Hence, you may feel hot after lying on it for some time. However, you can find some memory foam mattresses that contain tiny capsules. These capsules are filled with gel so that the bed temperature can be reduced.
You do not have to worry about a spring mattress trapping heat. They are much cooler compared to foam mattresses because the coil layer ensures airflow. People living in tropical climates will benefit from this mattress, especially during summer.
04 of 05 Weight distribution
If you are looking for a mattress that will provide you relief from pain, you should choose a mattress that offers even weight distribution. In such a case, a spring mattress might not be the ideal option. Due to uneven pushback, the coils can form pressure points. As a result, you might experience pain in your back and shoulders.
Since foam mattresses are designed to ensure proper weight distribution, you do not have to worry about it causing back pain. People with arthritis or other pain-related issues are often suggested to choose foam mattresses by doctors.
05 of 05 Check the odour
You do not have to worry about the smell when choosing spring mattresses. They are odour-free. This is mainly because hardly any chemicals are used in its manufacturing process.
This is not the case with foam mattresses. All foam mattresses have petroleum derivatives. As a result, they have an odour. This odour can last anywhere between a few days to a few weeks. If you have a sensitive nose, choose a spring mattress. However, the latex variant among foam mattresses does not have any odour. You can consider it as well.
