All about Honda Activa 6G 20th Anniversary Edition

Honda’s Activa has been the brand’s most successful model in India as it has become hugely popular in our country, thanks to it being a hugely reliable product over the last 20 years or so. And then, there’s the fact that it’s made by Honda. The modern-day scooter buyer is not what it was many years ago. Buyers consider every detail, and in order to keep it fresh for the customer, Honda has given it an all-important update for our market, and it’s being called the 20th Anniversary Edition. Prices start at ₹ 67,392 for the base variant, and ₹ 68,892 for the Deluxe variant.

This special edition variant of the Activa 6G celebrates the scooter’s 20th year of selling in India. It will be sold in just two variants and comes in just two colour themes: Pearl Nightstar Black and Matte Mature Brown Metallic. This scooter also features subtle changes on the outside, that include a colour-coded grab handle along with an Active badge painted in gold. There’s even a 20th anniversary logo and stripes to go with it.

Let’s talk looks

The scooter looks quite nice and sharp when looked at from the front, thanks in part to the nicely designed headlamp and the revised chrome accents on the apron. The front mudguard looks sharper, and the body panels on the sides get some sleek detailing as well. Some plastic bits do feel a bit tacky though. At the back, it is new and looks identical to the Honda bikes. The Activa still remains a metal-bodied scooter.

On the road

The wheelbase is longer and it sports a 12-inch wheel at the front. The frame is similar to the one on the Activa 125, which has been toughened to withstand more weight and power. At high speeds, the scooter feels stable at high speeds and swerving around in traffic is a breeze. The handling is better and the scooter feels more stable and ride quality is good as it soaks in bumps well. The engine is new as well and uses fuel-injection, not a carburettor. The Activa isn’t particularly quick, and acceleration is dull. But it is refined, and the engine is remarkably smooth. Performance might have dropped by a bit, but it’s more frugal than before.

The verdict

The new Activa 6G is better than ever. It’s economical, better equipped and delivers more value for the money spent. It may cost more, but then, you get more scooter too. It’s pricier than most of its contenders, but that’s expected of a company like Honda that charges that bit more over its segment rivals. With the new, updated Activa 6G 20th Anniversary Edition, buyers are sure to rush into showrooms for bookings. Also, grab the latest info on the upcoming scooters, only at autoX.
